Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) and Si Se Puede Foundation (SSPF) provide a yearlong calculus club to SSPF’s Student Engineers.  The classes are facilitated by Dr. Melinda Rudibaugh’s CGCC calculus 1, 2 and 3 students and under the direction of CGCC’s Service Learning Department.

Dr. Rudibaugh and Alberto L Esparza, President & CEO of SSPF see the motivation for all of mathematics, beyond basic arithmetic, to be physics, and the building basics - derivatives, integrals, and differentialequations, which are fundamental to physics and to Calculus-can be taught to elementary students with no mathematical sophistication and as evidenced by an increase in student math scores in school and performances in calculus competitions. Calculus competitions are held at CGCC in November and April and facilitated by CGCC.

SSPF students meet as part of SSPF’s engineering program at Hartford Sylvia-Encinas Elementary School, 700 N Hartford, Chandler 85226 on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
